The Boys & Girls Club is busy as bee's this spring!  The members are crazy with excitement as the weather warms up. Here's a recap of whats been going on at the BGC:

Bowlapalooza!- Club 48 (the BGC after school progam) and Time Out 4 Kids (home school program) members all participated in the Big Brothers Big Sisters fundraiser Bowlapalooza!. The kids all had a great time at Fremont Lanes.

Earth Day- The BGC was host to this year's NCCS youth department Earth Day project.  The project was a collaboration of NCCS youth department programs including Project FOCUS, the PACE Program, and Camp Newaygo. The project included rain barrel construction and beautification, the construction of a multi-bin compost structure, and garden weeding and clearing.  The kids and staff were lucky enough to have three knowledgeable volunteers attend the project.  Thanks Joe, Bret, and Dallas!

Over the past month the Boys & Girls Club members have been filling their time with a lot of new activities.

Here are some recaps:

Student Theater- The members of student theater have been working very hard on memerizing lines and working on stage presence.  The members are going to perform the play "Sunlight & Moonlight" on March 21st in the NCCS multipurpose room.  Admission is $5 for adults and $2 for children/students.  Children under 5 are free!

Push Cart- With the help of a very generous volunteer (Staff member Niki's Dad, Eric) a few of the Boys & Girls Club members were able to build a push cart (a wooden "car", close to a derby car).  The push cart is being busily decorated with a very creative design.  The cart will be raced against other area schools at this years "Most Fun Day Ever".

Dodgeball- The BGC members are known for their love of dodgeball and the members were lucky enough to receive a brand new set of dodgeballs and floor hockey equipment from the honored BGC volunteer...

Don't let winter get you down,

come to the BGC for fun and friends!

Cardboard Sled Challenge/Chili Cook-off

On January 28th, the BGC is hosting a cardboard sled challenge and chili cook-off at Branstrom Park. Members from the Fremont and Newaygo sites will each construct cardboard sleds and pick one chili recipe to enter.  The chili cook-off will take place at the NCCS Boys & Girls Club and once a winner is decided the members and staff will go to Branstrom park for the sled challenge.  Each contestant or team will race their sleds down the hill and the fastest sled wins!  Winners of the chili cook-off and the cardboard sled race will each win bragging rights and a small prize.  Parents are welcome to attend.

Student Theater

Student theater is a way for the star in each child to shine!  Join the NCCS Boys & Girls Club student theater troup and learn set construction, make-up, acting and so much more!  Members will engage in improv games, public speaking, and leadership skills.  Student theater is open to youth grades 3rd-8th and begins on January 20th.

The holidays are here and the Boys & Girls Club is celebrating!

This past week BGC members had the chance to create awesome "books" for BGC Board members.  The kids also had a chance to decorate a paper stocking which was then hung over the paper fireplace! This coming week the members are going to be creating party decorations and gifts to take home.  On Friday, December 19th the BGC homeschool program and the afterschool program will both be enjoying holiday parties!  All parents and friends are invited and encouraged to attend Friday's celebrations.

As a reminder the BGC will be closed December 22nd-January 2nd. Programming resumes on January 5th.  Have a great Holiday!

The 6th annual Powder Puff Football tournament was a huge success. The event was host to five teams (two from Fremont, two from Newaygo, and one from Baldwin). A special thanks to the student from Tri-County who showed up and played on one of Newaygo's teams, thanks for sticking with it! Each team showed tremendous spirit and drive.  All of the teams gave it their all, even though it was freezing outside.

The NCCS Boys & Girls Club would like to congratulate Newaygo High School for their win, staking claim to the coveted pink football once more. Way to go Lionesses!

A big thank you to all of the teams who participated, the event was a success because of you!  Also, a very special thanks to all of the students and community members who helped out at the event; your effort and time was appreciated. Finally, thanks to all who showed up to support their teams.   See you next year!
