Bookmark and Share My name is Lora and I’ve recently been hired as the Volunteer Coordinator/Community Liaison. I am going to start blogging regularly about volunteering at NCCS and ongoing trends in volunteerism. We’ve been making a lot of changes to our volunteer services and hopefully soon we will start offering orientation sessions to give volunteers a stronger connection to NCCS. Another project we are working on re-establishing is Project Literacy. We are going to start offering training sessions for tutors, so they can learn how to teach other adults how to read...

The 2008 Children's Christmas/Toys for Tots program at NCCS served 786 families and 3144 children this year.  We couldn't have done it without the help of many wonderful volunteers who helped in every aspect of the program.  Thank you very much to all of you who gave so many hours volunteering.  We hope you enjoyed the experience and know how much we appreciate you.

Over 200 personal care kits  were assembled on Saturday, October 25, and will be delivered to Newaygo County senior citizens as part of the Senior Harvest baskets program.  NCCS staff and community members donated shampoo, soap, toothbrushes, and toothpaste for the project.  Volunteers put the kits together, and hand-made cards were created by area young people so that each person receiving a Harvest Basket will also receive a colorful holiday card.

Thank you, volunteers!

Make a Difference Day is a national day of service being held this year on October 25.  NCCS is sponsoring a project to distribute personal care items to seniors receiving Senior Harvest Baskets.  We can use your help collecting full size bottles of shampoo, bath soap, toothbrushes, and toothpaste.  We will be collecting items until October 25 and bagging them for distribution on Saturday, October 25, at 9:00 a.m. at NCCS.  Let us know if you would like to help.

You can also create your own Make a Difference Day project.  Do you belong to a church or service organization that would like to participate?  Contact Ailene  for ideas and a project form.  Everyone can join in a project that will help to make a difference in our communities.
