Well, we are well underway with our Lang Lodge Renovation. First, let me start out by thanking everyone who came out and helped to empty out the Lodge. We had about 40 volunteers including the Newaygo Football Team. Many alumni stayed Saturday night in the Lodge where they shared memories and sang songs. It was also great to have the support of some of our 2008 LIT’s and Staff. Thanks for your help Sara Lanning, Ellen Fisher, Topher Wilkinson, Sarah Kane and Jessie Waite!

Now let me catch you up on what has been happening. The first week of renovations started out with some mixed feelings as Council Rock came down. The new bathrooms will be wonderful but it is still hard to see something that has been there for so long come down. Then they started digging out the new basement addition and jacked up the dining porch as they excavated underneath it. There was a lot of moving around of dirt! Next the walls were poured, plumbing laid in the basement and then floors poured.

Since it has been getting dark so early, it had been awhile since I had been over in the Lodge but Friday I went over there with Jane and Bev and found some exciting progress. They have studded the walls in the basement so now when you can see where all the rooms are and really visualize it. When I went upstairs I found a surprise. The wall on the cabin side in the dining porch was missing! You have a very clear view of the cabins nowJ. This will be new doors that roll up into a smaller dining hall to give us room to expand during those crowded summer sessions. Finally, the last new addition I found was a nice curved retaining wall in front of the lodge where the new patio will be going. It will be a great place to sit and look out at the lake.

There are many new and exciting things going on right now at camp and if you are interested in seeing them for yourself you can come out to our winter reunion which will be Saturday December 27th from 1-4 p.m. A registration form will be online soon on our website and information should be coming in the mail beginning of December.

If cannot attend the reunion but would still like to see the construction progress, click here for an online photo gallery.

Re: Lang Lodge Renovation

Can't tell you how exciting it is to see what's happening with the Lang Lodge construction. This project is critical to the long term financial security of Camp Newaygo. If you're an alumni and you happen upon this blog and you have not donated to the Lang Lodge Renovation Capital Campaign we need your help to complete the campaign. Together we can do this. As of the the start of 2009 we have around $400,000 left to raise. Checks can be made out to:
NCCS Camp Newaygo Lang Lodge Building Fund and mailed to : NCCS Camp Newaygo/PO Box 149/ Fremont, MI. 49412
In 1996 a group of about 200 of us saved Camp Newaygo from being sold to a condo developer. This is another important moment in our Camp Newaygo history.
