Instructor Maryann Challa will be teaching a class in Floor Cloth Painting. The painting techniques used in making floor cloths are all easy to do and don’t require any sophisticated painting skills to achieve great-looking results. Using primed canvas, wonderful fast-drying acrylic paints, and a variety of simple designs, these easy-to-make floor cloths add a splash of color to any room, are easily maintained with light mopping, and work well over vinyl or hardwood floors.
Sue Green will be teaching a class called “Reclaim, Reuse, and Recreate Jewelry.” Participants will create beautiful, artisan jewelry under Sue’s guidance. After Sue demonstrates the art of reclaiming glass for lamp work beads, participants may use these beads, glass shards, and other found or reclaimed objects, along with copper to create their own adornment for a bracelet, necklace, or pendant. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own objects like broken but sentimental jewelry or buttons to use in their piece.
Kumihimo-Japanese Braiding will also be taught by Sue Green. Using a Japanese braiding disc, and various fibers, participants will create cord-like braids that can be used to hang pendants or even by themselves as necklaces or bracelets. This technique is also great for purse straps and many other similarly useful applications.
Maureen Roslanic will be teaching a class in Wearable Art, which is the embellishment of clothing with paint and fabric. This is a great opportunity to recycle a piece of clothing, jazz up something old, or just have some fun being creative. Participants will need to bring fabric or a jacket or sweatshirt to embellish.
Needle Felting will be taught by Diana Wiseman. This technique of painting with fibers is great for embellishing fabrics, creating jewelry, three dimensional sculptures, and repairing everything from sweaters to jeans. Students will be using sheep’s roving, yarn, flosses, beads, cut up old sweaters, and some silks to create a great little tote bag. Roving and needle felting kits which include foam, instructions and four needles, will be available for purchase at the retreat. Participants may also bring their own fabrics, yarns, and woolens to be cut-up and incorporated into their designs.
Pedicures, manicures, full body, chair or scalp massages, and haircuts will also be available for extra fees. Salon services and massage prices will be announced by providers onsite. Additionally, yoga classes will be available, and those interested should bring a mat or towel to use and dress comfortably.
