NCCS strives to enhance the quality of life by promoting and supporting volunteerism. We are conveners for the community, catalysts for social action and key local resources for volunteer involvement. We bring people and community needs together through a range of programs and services based upon community needs, and other factors.
Volunteers connect people to hope and usually start with a single act of kindness, but often lead to a lifetime of enriching experiences. Whether you have a talent for knitting hats and mittens, organizing a food drive, a desire to mentor the young or just want to give back, NCCS always has a varied list of volunteer opportunities available.
Community needs simply would not have been met without the efforts of an active, growing, and incredibly caring volunteer base. In 2007, 1,150 individuals and/or groups volunteered 45,417 hours of service to NCCS. Their gift of volunteer time saved the agency over $613,000 in salaries. This gift enabled NCCS to provide a greater depth of programs and services.
NCCS programs succeed because they are the collaborative work of caring, local citizens creating effective solutions to meet needs in their own communities. NCCS Volunteer Services believes in the value our volunteers bring to each person they assist, either directly or indirectly. Whether it is for a non-profit service agency like NCCS, a library, a school, a governmental agency, a health care institution, or an arts provider; fostering volunteerism is important to the future of our community.
If you are interested in volunteering, please call: (231) 924-0641 or locate the Volunteer Interest Form on the left under Forms, and also at “You Can Care” and “Volunteer Services” sections of this website An NCCS staff member will be in contact with you to discuss volunteer opportunities that fit your interests and talents.
We need you.

NCCS Big Brothers Big Sisters of Lake & Newaygo Counties
NCCS is a program site of Big Brothers Big Sisters where mentoring provides young people with one-on-one time spent with a volunteer mentor doing things they both enjoy, for about 8 hours each month. Shared interests might include activities such as shooting hoops, playing a board game, going fishing or just spending time together and talking. The schedule can be flexible to meet the needs of mentors and young people in different situations. “Bigs” might meet their “Littles” on weekends, in the evening or after school.
NCCS Boys & Girls Club
The NCCS Boys & Girls Club provides program opportunities for children in the Newaygo County area. The club offers an after school program, a home-school program, a toddler program and summer programs. The NCCS Boys & Girls Club gives area youth a safe place to “hang-out” along with providing lifelong lessons and enrichment opportunities. Volunteers can help out after school, during the summer, or during any one of the quality programs hosted by the NCCS Boys & Girls Club.
NCCS Camp Newaygo
NCCS Camp Newaygo, on Pickerel Lake, just outside of Newaygo, has a history of traditions built on caring and excellence. A traditional rustic camp for girls and women dating back to 1926, a $2.5 million renovation completed in June 2009 has broadened camp opportunities for families and makes possible year-round use of Lang Lodge as a site for educational programs, retreats, conferences and more in a beautiful natural setting. Volunteers are frequently needed for a variety of programs and environmental tours, to ready camp for summer and fall season, to assist with transportation, to bake snacks for campers, or to work on carpentry projects. Volunteers are also sought to help host special events and to serve on event committees.
Tools for School
